I manually set up the printer, but the scanner didn't show up.

The Scan Pro software said the scanner didn't initialize (I don't recall the exact message as I have a cold ::grin:: ).
HP OFFICEJET 5510 ALL IN ONE PRINTER PRICE UPDATE
Yesterday we got a new MacBook, and after applying all the Software Update updates, I installed the 9.7.1 software and (this turned out to be very important!) skipped the Setup Assistant. So, I uninstalled the update and reinstalled 9.7.1 and the scanner worked again. I liked what it did for printing, but the scanner is too important to me. Apple showed an "update" in the Software Update (last summer, last fall? I can't remember when that was) which again broke the ability to scan. Leopard broke it when it came out, HP finally released the 9.7.1 update in February which returned the ability to scan.

I have been using a C6150 to scan for almost a year and one half. They work and their support people actually know what they're talking about.) I will probably be buying Brother printers and MFDs for some time to come. Personally, after several bad experiences with HP, culminating in my old HP MFD being abandoned and my being told, in so many words, by HP 'support' that I should buy a new device, I will never buy anything from HP again. Some Epson and Canon systems are also supported. My Brother MFC440CN is supported under Leopard. If that doesn't work you're pretty much gonna have to buy a new MFD. Download VueScan and see, it won't cost you anything but time if it doesn't work. Certainly HP has abandoned support for most of its MFDs dating from then, for both Leopard and Vista.Īlternatively, the OJ5500 is on the list of supported scanners for VueScan, my app of choice for supporting scanning on scanners/MFDs abandoned by their vendors. You can try it, but I suspect that you may have problems. Note that the latest version for the OJ5510 dates from 2005 and states that it is compatible with You'll need to go to HP's site and download their scanner software, HP Image Zone.
